5-Star Predictions ✨

Hi there!

Let’s talk about those amazing books we encounter once in a while – those that make you wish that the story would last for 2000 pages longer and that you could travel back in time to read the book for the first time all over again. A 5-star book for me requires that I thoroughly enjoy it, I want to feel things and be awed by the story. 5-Star books for me often come out of the blue, but sometimes I manage to predict which tomes on my TBR are going to have the biggest impact on me. So today I’m here to do exactly that – predict which books will tear my heart in two and make me lose sleep in favour of finishing one more chapter.

I can’t wait to get started! Most of the books on this list I know next to nothing about, I just have an odd, strong hunch that they will be wonderful reads. Hopefully I can return to this list of 10 books when I have finished most of them to check if I was right or not 🌟

Psssssst. I have added synopses under the cover for books that are standalones or the first book in a series. No synopses for sequels to avoid spoilers!

OWLs Magical Readathon TBR: April 2020

Hello! Welcome to my April TBR 😊

April is the magical time we have all been waiting for – the time for another round of OWLs! G @ The Book Roast organises magical readathons like the OWLs, which is based on ordinary wizarding levels in Hogwarts, multiple times every year! These readathons are always over-the-top kind of amazing because not only should you read a lot, you can complete prompts to gain your own magical career that you can select from G’s career guide! So if you have ever wanted to be a dragon tamer or a defence against the dark arts -teacher, now is your time!

Below is the introduction video by G, check it out for all the deeds on OWLs.

March TBR Flowchart ✨

Hello my fellow bookaholics 💕

I went on a short break to catch up to my blogging schedule & to blog hop around more, but now I’m back! And oh boy, this is an exciting post to share with you 😍

I love making TBRs and planning what to read next, but I’m poor at following them! I mood-read a lot, and I find it impossible to persuade myself to follow my own TBRs.

Me going through my TBR and not feeling any of it

But I believe that I have finally found a solution that allows me to list my reading plans while still catering for my fluctuating reading moods! A flowchart! Or rather – a TBR like one of those tween magazine quizzes we all love. I can’t refuse a ‘select your dream holiday home and we will tell what kind of pear you are’ – Buzzfeed quizzes, and so I hope that I can’t refuse a TBR quiz either 😆 The perfect solution!

December TBR: Tis’ the Season A’Thon & Currentathon

It’s December!

december GIF

December is great because I love Christmas, my birthday is on the 17th and it is the perfect time for cozy readathons 💕

Here’s what my December plans look like:

  • A Christmas party at the Zoo on the 5th 🐘
  • Finnish Independence day celebration on the 6th 🇫🇮
  • Christmas shopping with a friend on the 16th 🎅
  • A day off work for reading all day on my birthday the 17th 🎂
  • Travelling to Finland on the 19th ✈️
  • Christmas at my partner’s parents; a warm cabin in the middle of snowy woods, winter stuff like snowmen (!), lots of great food (vegan everything!) and sauna ☃️
  • Relaxing at my mom’s after Christmas – and hopefully reading a lot! 📚
  • New Years with my brother and dad 🎉

What do your plans include? Are you celebrating Christmas? How about Hannukkah or Kwanzaa or New Years?

In Christmas I also hope to take part in a bunch of readathons! I’m co-hosting Currentathon and it will run for the entire month, Tis The Season A’Thon happens from 2nd to 8th of December and it challenges me to read Christmassy reads ✨ I’ll also take part in the December round of Magical Readathon although this round is all about surprising challenges within a story and so I can’t set a TBR for that one 😀

November TBR ft Tome Topple TBR

Helloou my fellow bookaholics 💕

Sorry about missing last Sunday’s blog post, I was traipsing around Scottish castles and hiking snow-capped mountains 😁 Have a cheeky picture from the top of a Munro:

But, today I’m not supposed to be here sharing a bunch of mountain shots, but rather my November TBR 🤩 If you have read any of my previous TBRs then you know that I love making them and I’m terrible at sticking to them. I’m staying on brand and I’ve very ambitious plans for November even though I haven’t been reading as much as I usually do within the past couple of months.

October TBR

Hello my fellow bookaholics 💕

September rushed by and now it’s already the 9th of October. HOW DID THAT HAPPEN.

I Am Lost Reaction GIF by Bounce

September was a pretty bad reading month, but maybe October is when my reading life comes back alive. First, I was debating joining a gazillion readathons to boost my reading but I found myself fighting against all rules and prompts. So, there’s no other option than to mood read.

Try a Chapter Tag: Fairyloot Edition

Hello my dear bookaholics 💕

Today I’m doing a Try a Chapter Tag – and I’m incredibly excited about it! This tag was created by Malia @ The Book Paradise and the rules are simple: pick out some books you’ve been meaning to read and read the first chapter of each to decide whether you’d like to read the entire book soon or not. I think reading the first chapter can give me a good perspective on the atmosphere and the writing style. I tend to dislike synopses because they reveal too much about the plot.

I wanted to do a Fairyloot edition of the tag because after having received Fairyloot subscription as a gift for some time, I have fallen behind in reading the books of the month! I want to read all of them, but I can’t decide in what order to do that. So, I’ll be reading the first chapter of each book to help me put them into an order. I’ll then try to read the 1st book on the list every month!

Warning: I’ll be including books from a range of Fairyloot boxes in this post, including books from the 2019 September and August boxes (but not October). If you have yet to receive your box for September or August, you might be spoiled for the book if you keep reading! Otherwise there will be no spoilers at all (I won’t even have any after reading just one chapter 😂 )

Here is my glorious stack of Fairyloot books:

Look how amazing all of their coloured pages are! There are more coloured ones than plain ones!

All the books and the boxes they came in:

  • Beyond a Darkened Shore by Jessica Leake: April 2018
  • Onyx & Ivory by Mindee Arnett: May 2018
  • Circle of Shadows by Evelyn Skye: January 2019
  • To Best the Boys by Mary Weber: March 2019
  • Nocturna by Maya Motayne: April 2019
  • The Beholder by Anna Bright: May 2019
  • Wicked Fox by Kat Cho: July 2019
  • The Merciful Crow by Margaret Owen: August 2019
  • Serpent & Dove by Shelby Mahurin: September 2019

Most Anticipated New Releases for Autumn 2019

It’s among us – the season for warm blankets, woollen socks, pumpkin spiced lattes, and BOOKS. So many books. Endless amounts of new releases, mostly from my favourite genre – fantasy 🤩 I’m hyped!

I’m so hyped that I have collected a gazillion new releases that I’m most excited about in this blog post. I’m ready to make my bank account cry crocodile tears.

These new releases span from September to November. Click on the title for the Goodreads page! I’m always waffling but because this list is so long, I’ll try to keep my gushing to a minimum. Check the Goodreads page for each one for full synopses 😊

My apologies for this list being so late, I was super busy getting started with a new degree in a new city and I also suffered from some awful technical problems 😅

NEWTs TBR

If you know me, then you know that I get extremely excited about readathons. Especially G @ Book Roast’s Magical Readathons are amazing and I’m always squealing from joy whenever a new announcement comes up.

In August it’s time to dive into NEWTs, or the Nastily Exhausting Wizarding Tests, that Hogwarts students complete on their seventh year of study to reach their preferred career. Book Roast has made it possible for us bookaholics to do the tests by reading! NEWTs is an extension of OWLs that happened in April (but you can still take part if you didn’t participate in OWLs). G gives you all of the details in her announcement video:

I am pursuing the career of a Metal Charmer, a mysterious profession of risky and careful work to produce intricate metallic objects with magical properties. Things like the time turner, the golden snitch, and much more!

Image result for time turner gif

As the profession of a metal charmer is exclusive, reaching the career is very difficult. That’s why I need to read 12 books in August 😱 that’s about 5 books more than I usually take up and I have already lost 10 days of the month for moving house! I’m panicked, hyperventilating and still kind of exhilarated.

Am I ready to give up all of my free time to reach this career? Yes. Am I ready to let my body decay while I stay in the same spot reading until I am a metal charmer? Yes. Will I procrastinate university work to reach my metal charmer magical career? Hell to the yes. Will I stop watching Netflix? NNnngggh, I don’t know man.
