Kaleena @ Reader Voracious’s questions and my answers

What’s your favourite literary trope?

I have to confess that I’m in love with the chosen one trope πŸ™ˆ I don’t know why but I find it very empowering when the person who was bullied and ignored by others takes the stage. And elemental magic! I love it when the person can control water, fire, air or earth, AH. I would like these two tropes served together please mmmmm.

the chosen one GIF by Star Wars

If you could write a book, what would it be about?

It would definitely be fantasy. I don’t have any ideas but I would find it exceedingly hard to resist planting my two favourite tropes in there haha. Maybe an empowering, feminist fantasy with no romance!

What’s your favourite thing to do while reading?

Drink coffee or wine! I’m all in for tea too but somehow I strongly associate coffee and wine with reading. I also like to match the music I’m listening to with the book I’m reading. The right-kind of music helps me get perfectly immersed into a book and I sometimes listen to something I dislike just because it happens to work with the book.

What’s your favourite food combinations?

I like combining sweet and savoury. One of my favourite combinations is sweet potatoes with hallomi or goat’s cheese sandwiches with mango chutney or pineapple and kidney beans on pizza (no shame here I love it haha). Simple and niiiiice.

What’s the weirdest food combinations you like?

My adoration of the sweet & salty combo can take monstrous proportions. I like watermelon and grapes in my tortillas, and raisins should be served with every meal. Especially baked into toast.

What is your most prized possession?

I got a soft-toy elephant when I was 2 or 3 years old from my uncle. That elephant is now called Fantti and I would run in to a burning house to fetch it if it was trapped inside.

Do you follow any book-tubers? If so, who’s your favourite? If not, why not?

Yes I do! I love watching booktube and I follow loads of people there. AAH I can’t pick one favourite, I have multiple! My favourites include Regan @ PeruseProject, Hailey @ Hailey in bookland, Zoe @ Read By Zoe, Emily @ Books with Emily Fox, Whitney @ WhittyNovels and G @ Book Roast. I also discovered Chelsea @ Chelseadolling Reads just a little time ago and I love her too! My absolute favourite content are reading vlogs and TBRs, I just can’t get enough haha.

Who are your favourite bloggers to follow on twitter?

I’m pretty new to twitter and I still had zero twitter skills just one month ago. That also means that I haven’t established any favourites as of yet πŸ˜„ But C.G Drews is amazing with her words @PaperFury and I have recently been digging the humour by Beth @BooksNest and Satou @inkishkingdoms

What is your ideal vacation? (No money limits)

OH I WANT TO GO EVERYWHERE. I would like to have a month long tour through India with a local guide, then travel in Vietnam and Singapore for some time, continue on to Australia, then New Zealand and then go to Japan and Korea as the last two destinations. I would be perfectly happy spending 4 or 5 months on this trip! I would like to focus on sampling food, getting to know to the cultures and doing a lot of yoga.

What’s something ridiculous that you used to believe when you were younger?

I believed a bunch of ridiculous stuff but now that I’m asked my mind goes totally blank.

What would be the clickbait title of the last book you read?

A Bunch of Children Found Candylicious Magic Worlds with This Simple Trick.

Can you guess what the book is? πŸ˜‚

Arden @ Phantom Paper’s questions and my answers

Favorite movie/TV show/anime?

I show a consistent inability to pick just one favourite so here is a whole set of my favourites:

BeFunky-collage(6).jpg

Favorite books?

Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor, Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, Uprooted by Naomi Novik and Circe by Madeline Miller. I’m so grateful it didn’t say ‘favourite book’.

BeFunky-collage(7).jpg

Do you pour milk first or cereal?

TANDANDAA. A huge plot twist, but I hate milk in my cereal. I eat them raw dry.

shocked star trek GIF

From past experience I know how utterly shocking this can be to the milk-cereal-eaters (MCE for short). I acknowledge being a rare species.

I don’t understand the MCEs though, cereal gets soggy in milk and why would you knowingly ruin your cereal

ryan reynolds GIF
I eat my raw, non-soggy and wonderful cereal with banana and raisins.

What’s that one thing you’ve been putting off for a really long time?

Taking my broken blender to someone who can fix it. I love that blender and I want it to be okay again. BUT UGH. I would have to email random people asking who can fix it and then they will just ask me to call and I hate calling and and and. Valid reasons as you can see.

Your first name, and what would you change it to, if you wanted to?

My first name is Pauliina. I’m quite okay with it right now. I hated it when I lived back in Finland but now I quite like how everyone here in Scotland pronounces it as Polina. If I were to change it I would probably choose to be either Bella or Eleonoora. Eleonoora is my second name and I have always liked Bella.

Link a post you liked a lot (can be your own, someone you follow or a follower’s)

My favourite post of the ones I have done is my readathon blog: 24 Hours of Reading – a Readathon Blog!

Chaz @ Life of Chaz made a really fun post with A BUNCH OF AWARDS

I don’t even game much but Lauren @ Northern Plunder’s Steam Wishlist clean-up posts are loads of fun! I didn’t have a wishlist in Steam before but now I have started filling it up due to these posts, so they clearly have the reverse effect on me; Northern Plunder cleans up her wishlist and I fill up mine.

I loved Tecsie @ Tecsielity’s review of Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik.

One thing you wished you knew before you started blogging

How important Twitter is in the blogging community! It’s a way to tag others and commucate easily, find new blogs to follow and others with similar tastes. If I had know I would have started practicing this Twitter thing a bit earlier.

The kind of pizza you order

I’m the person that goes for the ‘choose your own toppings’ bit and then I pick everything and the pizza becomes too expensive. (That’s why I rarely order pizza)

Without thinking about my potential bankruptcy I would take a thin crusted, huge pizza with tomato sauce, onions, kidney beans, goats cheese, pineapple (YES), spinach, peppers, blue cheese and maybe some other beans too if they have any handy. This gorgeousness would be enough for the next day as well!

Personal preference, car or motorbike?

I’m so bad at choosing!! If I absolutely really really have to choose I pick a motorbike. Cause they are cool.

But I kind of pick a car cause driving a motorbike in the Scottish Highlands is not super convenient. And that’s mostly where I need a motor anything to get to. But I kind of pick neither because I never really want to own a car or a motorbike. I pick free public transport and super cheap car rentals. I just picked a car didn’t I?

Weird food combination you like or a food you like that’s an acquired taste?

I answered a similar question above and most people are probably so freaked out about my raw cereals at this point that they can’t deal with another weird food combination.

One acquired taste though I can add, it’s matcha! I mean the proper matcha tea that you make out of good quality Japanese matcha powder with a bamboo whisk and then you also acquire crazy awesome triceps because a lot of whisking is involved. Most people I have made it to find it too strong or ‘slightly weird’ but I really like it!

I nominate for the tag

My questions are partly recycled because I have no shame

  1. The kind of pizza you order?
  2. What was the last book you finished?
  3. Would you rather be able to teleport anywhere or be able to read minds?
  4. Which book has been in your TBR for the longest?
  5. How do you feel about big books? What’s the longest book you have ever read?
  6. Weirdest food you like?
  7. What’s that one thing you have been putting off for a really long time?
  8. Which book would you recommend to someone who doesn’t like to read?
  9. Are you a person who plans things carefully beforehand or more of a spontaneous type?
  10. Do you have a favourite quote?
  11. If you had to stick to one book genre for the rest of your life which one would you pick?

  1. You have such great answers, especially to the trope question! Avatar: The Last Airbender totally started my love of that trope (plus the elements, of course!) when I was a kid, and I just can’t shake it. It’s so good when done right!!

    Thanks for the tag!

    1. Maybe we’re all just waiting to discover that we were chosen ones to control our favourite elements all this time and we didn’t know it πŸ˜‚ I wish I had more elemental magic books in my TBR now I really feel like reading them! And I still need to get to Avatar, I didn’t watch it as a kid and I feel like I missed out on that. I’m looking forward to seeing your responses 😊😊

      1. If you’re looking for something in that vein, Susan Dennard’s Truthwitch is a good place to start! And oh man, if you get a chance, watch A:TLA. It’s one of those cartoons that just went above and beyond, and even SO LONG after it’s release, I still adore it.

  2. Again, thanks for the nomination (I thanked you on Twitter if that sounds weird)! I think I’m with you on favourite tropes. The Count of Monte Cristo is a great book for that sort of thing. Basically a guy is wrongly accused and ends up spending the rest of the book exacting vengeance on those who wronged him. Prison, treasure, and foreign locales all make an appearance. But Dumas has always had a taste for the flamboyant. Equally, if it comes to magic, have you read the Wheel of Time? Bit of an undertaking, but I think you’d find it a lot of fun (though some find the characterisation of the female characters to be aggravating). It’s the Chosen One trope, and it’s epic in every sense. Question though. BookTubers. I’m really not a part of that. Should I be?

  4. Lovely answers πŸ™‚ I love the Chosen One trope too and see, there is nothing to be ashamed πŸ™‚ I also love enemy to friends trope πŸ˜›
And I loved your first name and probably I would have pronounced it Polina too.
And yay for India. I really wish you do visit here sometimes and I am sure you would love it here πŸ™‚

  5. Oh man, thank you!!!

Funny thing, in my mid-teens I toyed around with story ideas(back when I read Wattpad more often) and a girl with elemental powers was one of my favs. I guess many ppl have had the same idea, haha.

You’re like my sis! She likes weird food combos, too! Milk with savoury meals is one of them. I get sweet potatoes with halloumi, that sounds luscious! I don’t mind pineapple on pizza πŸ˜›

What’s a reading vlog?? o.0 This is the first time I’m hearing such a thing. I’ve got to check it out now.

You like Downton Abbey, too?? I like the GBBO, as well πŸ˜› Too bad they changed the hosts and most of the judges, it just isn’t gonna be the same!

Hahaha, I’m so glad you think that! It’s ABOUT TIME us bookworms made it books instead of just one! Like, who even does that??
Everyone’s on about Circe and Strange The Dreamer but can I ask, what is it that makes it so good? What do you like about it? I checked out Laini’s writing and it sure is lush! Aside from that, is there any thing good about the plot/story?

W.H.A.T. O.O No milk???? I like it in between soggy and crispy πŸ˜› You and your raisins xD

YAAAAAA you hate calling, too??! HAHAHAHA, join the club, amigo! I think it’s the part BEFORE calling that’s the worst, once I’m done it’s actually not that bad. And then an hour later I think of MUCH better stuff I could’ve said or replay the weird, cringey things I said xD
How about the place where you bought it?

The double ‘i’ catches my eye every time! It’s actually a pretty name πŸ˜‰ The other two are good alternatives! But double ‘o’?

I have a twitter, too, but I’m usually just comment or like stuff πŸ˜›

You know, as weird as that pizza might sound, I think it could be really delicious with all those different textures and flavors!

Hhahahaha! Same here, motorbikes are scary to ride! Public transport means you don’t have to bother with driving!

Wow, I didn’t know you had to whisk it, let alone with a bamboo whisk! I’m not too keen on matcha, I like jasmine tea more. But matcha pocky sticks I like.

Okay, I want to answer a few of the other questions but I’ll divide it into another comment just to be neat πŸ˜›

    1. Oh if you end up writing the elemental fantasy book, sign me up!! I’ll be the first to preorder it haha.
I’m late replying because I’m travelling and I have found it extra difficult this time to find wifi anywhere πŸ˜… But I hope you have discovered reading vlogs by now!!! If you haven’t, go to youtube and watch some reading vlogs by PeruseProject. I could switch my netflix subscription for endless reading vlogs anytime haha.

I hope you read Circe and Strange the Dreamer soon! Both of those books made me super immersed in the story and I went through a range of emotions while reading them. I don’t fall in love with characters too easily but in both Circe and Strange the main characters became very precious to me! I love the plot in Circe, and the writing by Laini Taylor in Strange is perfect. There are so many good things, I could gush about them endlessly!

Oooh yeah, the blender is still hanging out in my tabletop without any calls been made. I’ll have to find a handyman who doesn’t mind emailing.

Thank you for the name-compliments πŸ™‚ Finnish language prefers double vowels anywhere they fit lol.

I love that you took the time to comment on so many of the questions!! So nice to come back from my unplanned hiatus to this 😍😍😍

      1. Lolll, I’ll probably never write that story but if it ever happens I’ll definitely send a copy to you!
It’s totally understandable, I saw your tweet abt it and hey, I reply late, too 😁 I try not to spend every day on wordpress as it takes up a LOT of time and then where’s the time for reading ARCs and doing other stuff, right πŸ˜› Feel free to reply whenever you want! Oh, and I checked out reading vlogs, turns out they’re vlogs by booktubers, I thought it was something else(nothing in particular). I’ll check out PeruseProject.

Oh man, now I wish I requested Circe! The mythology aspect turned me off so I didn’t. The cover’s stunning though(the copper one).

Lolll, what abt your partner? He could give the handyman a call.

It was my pleasure! I know I love seeing comments on my blog, so I’m glad it gave you a little spark of happiness! πŸ˜„

  6. 1. (Already did this one for my own post)
    2. The Loneliest Girl In The Universe by Lauren James
    3. Teleport, definitely. Reading minds is overrated, IMO. It’ll instigate so much more drama and chaos. We already have to deal with what people are SAYING, let alone thinking!
    4. Probably Illuminae. Can’t bring myself to spend that much right now πŸ˜›
    5. I’m greedy about big books, the thicker the more juicy looking it is to me xD It’s a stupid way of thinking cuz thickness does not guarantee a good book, right πŸ˜›
    6. Century Egg (must be with the sauce! Or else it’s too eggy or ammonia-tasting. Grossed out yet? xD)
    8. Umm…that’s a bit subjective. I recommend going for a book with themes you like. Also, try different forms: audiobooks, paperbacks, e-books. If you’re a boy who likes boyish stuff, try Alex Rider by Anthony Horowitz. It’s cool and adventurous! And if you’re a kid, The Magic Treehouse series! It’s KNOWN for converting stubborn non-readers.
    9. I’m a planner! I’d like to be more spontaneous though.
    10. If I had to pick one I live by it’s ‘Everything in moderation.’ I recently(finally!) did the 3-Day Quote Challenge and posted some good quotes there.
    11. A bit hard to choose, but I’ll go with Sci-fi. It’s a very broad and extensive genre, so I’ll have a lot of books with themes I like πŸ˜€

    1. I’m very intrigued by the Loneliest Girl in the Universe, I hope you liked it!

I think I would pick teleporting too, but I would be terrified of accidentally popping in to someone’s house. But reading minds would be scary cause you might accidentally answer to the person’s thoughts instead of something the person is saying.

Illuminae 😍😍 When you do get to it, make sure you have Gemina and Obsidio handy because you’ll be unable to stop once you start reading!

I’m the same about big books! They seem so intimidating yet so exciting.

I have never heard of a century egg so I had to google it. IS IT REALLY 100-YEARS OLD? THAT IS SO WEIRD.

I’m a planner too. Would be nice to do more spontaneous things but I would just worry like crazy.

I loved your quotes in the 3 day challenge, I still need to check out your latest post though.

Scifi is a good choice! The classics and modern ones are widely different too so there is a lot of different kinds of books.

      I loved your answers!
