Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets house-editions are released TODAY! The house-editions celebrate the first publishing of the second HP which was 20 years ago. The new editions are so pretty! I’m planning to collect the ravenclaw paperbacks. This is not an ad btw, I’m just genuinely excited hah.
The brilliantly funny James @ Upwithabook made a HP tag to celebrate the anniversary week and I got tagged YIPPIE!
I haven’t revealed this wildly surprising fact about myself in my blog yet, but I have to admit that I am indeed a potterhead.
What house are you in?
Ravenclaw! I’m all about knowledge, curiosity and learning. My unquenchable thirst for knowledge is one factor in why I love reading, and a major factor in why I want to work in academia. But I also have quite a few Slytherin qualities; I’m ambitious and achievement-oriented. Pottermore has sorted me in both Ravenclaw and Slytherin but I most consistently get Ravenclaw in all kinds of quizzes that float around the magical internet. Maybe I’m a Slytherclaw.
What is your wand?
I might be the worst Hp fan of all time: I had to go to Pottermore to check which wand I had, and when I got there I realised that I had actually never done the test.
My wand is a 10 ¾” Rowan wood with Phoenix feather core. Pottermore tells me that rowan wood has never been in an evil wizard’s hands and phoenix feather is the rarest core type. Phoenix allows the greatest range of magic but takes longer to tame than others. Sounds pretty good to me!
What is your patronus?
Well here is a test that I have done. 😂
My patronus is a grass snake.
It might sound common and harmless but I’m very proud of my patronus. In a way, I think it represents my Slytherin side; I’m busy ravenclawing in my everyday life but my slytherin-side attacks against dementors. Also, Mugglenet.com gives a pretty cool interpretation of grass snake:
the common grass snake alludes to the idea that we are often judged by our outward appearances when in fact, we may bear little other similarities with those we are mistaken for.
What would your Boggart be?
Boggarts are the things that come out of a closet and represent the things you fear the most. I think my boggart would probably be either a wasp or simply darkness. I passionately avoid both.
What position would you play in Quidditch?
I’m not very into team sports mostly because I was exposed to excessive amounts of football when I was young as my brother played. Nowadays I tend to make a U-turn at the door of a pub if they are showing a game, be that football, rugby or ice hockey or whatever else but kendo or figure skating. I have yet to find a pub that is showing figure skating or kendo hmmmm 🤔
Okay that is completely unrelated to the question. To be honest, I think I wouldn’t play Quidditch. If I was forced to, I would probably take the seeker’s position so that I wouldn’t need to actively take part in what the others were doing. I would probably never catch the snitch though so I’m sure I would be kicked out of the team in no time.
Would you rather take divination or care of magical creatures?
Magical creatures! I would be fascinated by all of them. I’m not very into divination although I’m sure that would be fun too.
What pet would you take to Hogwarts?
As I am not allowed to take a dog, I would take a cat. Probably a fluffy one like a Balinese cat or a Munchkin kitty that tend to have short legs. But I would be happy with any pet that would approve of me!
Which of the Deathly Hallows would you choose?
I’m not too keen on duelling so I would skip the elderwand. I also believe that those who have died probably should stay that way. So I would go with the invisibility cloak. It would actually be pretty handy when I want nothing less than to meet an acquaintance on my way to the grocery store to buy that random broccoli that I forgot earlier. And – of course – that extra chocolate bar that I wasn’t supposed to get at all.
Would you try to enter the Triwizard Tournament?
Naaah I would rather not get toasted by a dragon just to get a silly prize and some fame. I have too strong sense of self-preservation.
Would you rather drink butterbeer or pumpkin juice?
Pumpkin juice reminds me of PSLs and now I’m craving one. I’ll pick pumpking juice!
Favourite and least favourite teacher at Hogwarts?
My favourite teacher would probably be either Prof McGonagall or Prof Flitwick. McGonagall is fiercely inspiring and I love how rational she is. Flitwick I don’t know as much about, but I think he seems nice and encouraging.
My least favourite teacher is Gilderoy Lockhart. Mostly because he can’t actually teach, which is extremely frustrating for a person who loves to learn as much as I do. Umbridge is awful as well, but she might actually know more things than Lockhart.
Would you rather have the Marauder’s Map or the Time-turner?
I would be terrified of screwing up something if I had a time-turner. The Marauder’s Map is simply a lot less trouble so I’ll definitely take that. Although I might be scared to check it, what if you saw someone inside your room or something? TERRIFYING.
Which Hogwarts ghost do you like the most?
I am fascinated by Helena Ravenclaw aka the Grey Lady.
Would you join the Frog Choir?
HMMMmmmM. Maybe not, but I would go to see their gig.
Would you rather get a pygmy puff or Weasley’s Wildfire Whiz-bangs?
A PYGMY PUFF. I need more fluffy things in my life.
The Hogwarts Express trolley is passing by, what do you get from it?
Chocolate frogs because who doesn’t like chocolate AND you get that super cool card. Pumpkin juice as well now that I’m craving it.
Would you sneak into the restricted section of the Hogwarts library?
Probably not as I’m a total coward. I wouldn’t enjoy it at all, I would just constantly check whether anyone has noticed that I’m in there and worry whether anyone would ever find my corpse if an evil book happens to eat me. But I would definitely enjoy spending 98.9997% of all my time in the non-restricted areas of the library.
If you could save one person from the battle of Hogwarts, who would it be?
—— spoilers btw if you haven’t finished reading/watching Hp ——-
I would love to say that I’m saving Sirius Black. But he didn’t actually die in the battle of Hogwarts so it seems like I can’t save him. Now don’t hate me, but I would save Snape. He was always a dreadfully misunderstood character. Although I do realise that his death was necessary in many ways I would still save some of my own tears by saving him.
I thought about saving Lupin or Tonks but then the other would have to go on living without the other. SO SAD.
Who are the 7 best characters/which 7 characters would you take with you on a deserted island?
These are not in any specific order because I’m indecisive about my fave characters.
1. Hermione Granger
Hermione is one of my favourite bookish characters of all time. She is intelligent and creative but still courageous and determinant. I find her empowering and in a deserted island she would be able to get stuff done and lead the group.
2. Prof Severus Snape
Snape is a bit of a depressive character but he is brilliant as well. He would be brewing drinkable potions from sea water in no time in the deserted island!
Neville is so nice and precious that no one actually deserves him (apart from maybe another Neville). He would be eager to help in the deserted island.
4. Harry Potter
A classic choice, but I think he is pretty alright. He has gone through worse things so a deserted island would be a piece of cake. He would be duelling the tigers.
5. Ginny Weasley
Ginny is a badass and wouldn’t hesitate to offer a helping hand for any task.
6. Draco Malfoy
I would rather take the post- hogwarts battle Draco than the prior- battle Draco. I think Malfoy was never a bad person but he simply suffered from a bunch of pressure from relatives and friends to act evil. In the deserted island he would have a healthy sense of fear of scorpions and stuff and he could be teased into competitions against Potter in finding firewood and fishing. Perfect!
7. Sirius Black
Sirius is wonderfully kind and protective over everyone in his group. In the island, he would have a bunch of amazing ideas of how to get back home and survive.
Thank you again to James @ Upwithabook for the tag, it was loads of fun answering the questions.
Are you a potterhead? Have you done the wand tests? Then CONSIDER YOURSELF TAGGED! I would love to read your answers to these questions.
Thank you so much for reading!
